In this Upper Derwent gritstone landscape I create rhythmic, reflective, translucent watercolours; impastoed acrylics; scratchy chalk or burnished oil paintings.
As a qualified teacher/art therapist I invite you to participate in a studio session (booking essential) to explore environment, try techniques and stretch body, mind and soul.
These 10 images illustrate the range of my work. The first 3 express the River Derwent, mapping its dance through the Chatsworth Estate; then its raw birth on the Pennine watershed followed by a panoramic deluge at Bamford Mill weir.
Number 4 depicts Derbyshire limestone in an overground/underground experience in Castleton's Peak Cavern.
Number 5 follows in Cezanne's footsteps – while painting his Mt St Victoire, it blew off the easel and gathered some genuine 'victoire' earth.
My sixth figurative work was painted from minute sketches and vivid memories which I collected in Sri Lanka.
The final 4 paintings describe metaphysical aspects and responses: Lark Ascending is an abstraction of song from Vaughan Williams' music; then 'In the Beginning' is a meditation on the 4 elements of creation, their juxtaposition and life giving force.
My ninth choice 'The Mystery' is a visualisation of angelic forms proclaiming the wonder of Nativity, Emmanuel – God with Us.
Finally a panel from the triptych 'Song of Ascents' – Risen in Glory.
Please make an appointment to visit these, other paintings – and me – in my studio gallery close to the river Derwent, Ladybower reservoir and Win Hill.
