I have been drawing and painting since I was young; unfortunately I never managed to take it further. I started again in about 2013 and have been making good progress since.
A lot of my recent work has been influenced by the people I have met in my job as a Support Worker. I hope to capture something of their personality but it's very difficult. The people in these portraits had major issues such as alcohol, drug or mental health problems, in some cases all three, and often little to no family or friends to rely on.
London Planes is a series of charcoal drawings of Plane trees near my old home in London. These trees were pollarded every year and they took on a twisted sculptural form akin to ancient monuments. When I moved to Derbyshire in October 2016 I realised soon after that I would not be seeing this view anymore and started these pictures as a reminder.
My sketchbook is now being influenced by my new home in Derbyshire and in the next year or so there will be pictures relating more to it, I hope you will enjoy them as much as I will doing them.
