    Derbyshire Watercolour Landscapes

Work has been described by one art curator as ‘the artist to depict landscape that is the Derbyshire Dales’.

Certainly, I have formed a strong bond with the Derbyshire Dales and Peak District area with its soft rolling hills, dramatic cliff faces and surprise town vistas, tree-lined hills and parks. I prefer to work outdoors to get a feel of the view; the atmosphere & rhythm when immersed in it.

Sometimes figures flit into the work. For me, it is important that these don’t dominate but integrate into the natural environment. Capturing a season, a weather moment. In particular, a snowy scene has a strong appeal. Singular or groups of trees, often form an important part of the composition or subject matter, such as the Oker tree or Peak Tor. I have found resonance in the landscape work of Paul Nash, Eric Ravillious, and David Hockney.

Work is often fairly large approx. 1 metre for originals. Framed locally in oak or painted grey. It can be viewed by appointment at artists home or Wirksworth Framers also have a browser of prints.

Originals, Fine art reproductions, cards and mugs are available, and canvas prints to order.
